Osteopath

Osteopathy is a holistic manual therapy that looks at the body as an interconnection of systems.

It is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the proper alignment and functioning of the musculoskeletal system.

After any kind of trauma the body wants to spare itself from feeling pain thus it will adapt and compensate to reduce or eliminate discomfort.

These compensations can cause tissues to tighten which may lead to discomfort developing elsewhere in the body.

Osteopaths piece together previous injuries and traumas as well as other symptoms that might be related to guide the assessment and treatment process.

Through specific and precise palpation, a complete and comprehensive assessment is carried out to investigate the cause of neuromusculoskeletal, visceral and cranial dysfunctions. Each osteopathic treatment is specific and individualized.

The helping hand along your healing journey

Osteopath Iva Rimac

As a young athlete fascinated by biology, I pursued my studies in exercise science earning my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from McGill University in 2018. The knowledge I acquired throughout my degree emphasized that regular physical activity acts on all body systems and can help prevent and improve certain medical conditions. My curiosity for the body and its adaptative and healing properties is what brought me to enroll at the Centre Osteopathique du Quebec. I am currently working as an intern while finishing my degree in osteopathy. I have experience treating active individuals, junior athletes, pregnant and post-partum women, newborns and children. My osteopathic approach addresses structural imbalances to improve mobility and normalize tissue tension between the body systems to prevent the imbalances from reverting. My kinesiology background complements the treatment with at-home personalized exercises to be done post-treatment to promote further release and maintain structural changes.

The osteopathic concept that an individual’s well-being depends on the proper alignment and functioning of the musculoskeletal system can also be applied to babies, pregnant and post-partum women.

Pediatric osteopathy uses gentle techniques such as soft tissue manipulation and mild joint mobilisation to address musculoskeletal imbalances that can develop at childbirth. A balanced musculoskeletal system promotes optimal movement, development and growth in newborns, toddlers and children of all ages.

Peri-natal osteopathy

During pregnancy, osteopathy treatments can offer pain relief by addressing postural changes. They can also optimize pelvic alignment to ease childbirth. Post-partum treatments can help assist new mothers with recovery from the physical stresses of labor and delivery.

Feeding difficulties due to poor jaw and neck mobility;
Recurring ear infections due to poor drainage of the Eustachian tubes;
Torticollis;
Plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome), etc.

Furthermore, restriction of the musculoskeletal system in newborns can influence the development of certain conditions including:
